I have been addicted to and absolutely loved the Olympics and it is an affair that has kept on going with the Paralympics. The events for the latter have been astonishing and Ellie Simmonds is my new hero. The sport has been tense and thrilling, Team GB inspiring and each gold medal moment is a moment etched in history.

I love it, I love the fact that I’ve been watching sports I don’t usually, during the Olympics I was an avid follower of the Taekwondo, the dressage and the show jumping, at the moment I love the swimming, wheelchair basketball and the visually impaired football. Continue reading

Let the Bells Ring Out for Christmas…No Wait, I Meant the Olympics

The Olympics are so close, so very close.

There are only three days left until the opening ceremony, and in not-so-British fashion everything seems to be running along smoothly (excluding that slight security issue of course, but that’s sorted now) and in a very British fashion everyone is  moaning about it.

The traffic caused by the arrival of the Olympians, people adamant that the Olympics will not do them any good, the whole debacle about advertising and complaints about the Olympic torch. Continue reading

Avenue Q and Olympic Torch

Ok so I’m pretty late it this but ahhh well!

I went to see Avenue Q last week on Friday 13th (wasn’t that unlucky I have to say). I was given tickets by my boyfriend for my birthday and the show was absolutely awesome! It’s controversial and tackles everything from porn to racism, there’s a gay character who has trouble accepting himself, there’s even a scene similar to that infamous Team America one. I’m sorry to jump on the very predictable bandwagon but Danny Boyle what have you done?

You were put in charge of creating something great for the opening ceremony of the Olympics, something fantastic and memorable……not grass and a few farm animals! Sure, we’ll never be able to compete with China or Rio, but it’s not like we’re just countryside and animals. We have our traditions too. Continue reading

Great Britain’s Great Year

I am loving this year. With the Olympics and the Queen’s Jubilee as well as our deluded hopes for Eurovision tomorrow it really is a great time to be living in this country. Everywhere I go the Union Jack is proudly displayed, reminiscent of the Royal Wedding last year.

The Olympic Torch is touring the country with much fanfare and celebration following it about. Our hopes are high and despite the horrid logo and terrible mascots everyone is finally getting into the Olympic spirit. Continue reading

Art is a Tricky Thing.

I don’t know about you, but modern art completely goes over my head. It just looks like a jumble of scrap material haphazardly thrown together with no sort of semblance and given a meaning as an afterthought.

naturally I’m referring to the most recent winner of the Turner Prize. Scottish artist Martin Boyce won the prize yesterday for a pile of junk that is supposed to represent a park.

Now, don’t get me wrong, sometimes I get contemporary art, the beauty comes from its oddity but Boyce’s piece really has nothing inspiring about it.

I think it pushes the boundaries of what art is simply because it’s just way too difficult to see where the art is. It’s a shame that the modern-day artists can’t be more like Picasso or other great artists, tha side of culture really seems to be lacking lately…..just look at some of the poster for the London 2012 Olympics.

Olympic Torch Stops In Southampton.

Like the title says, the Olympic torch was in Southampton today. Right next to the building I have one of my seminars in. I got there with about ten minutes to spare and was so very tempted to risk being late to Ethics just so  could get my photo taken with it. Continue reading
