Happy Casual Vacancy Day

Yes, it’s finally here!

Five years after the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, J.K. Rowling will be launching a new book.

But it’s not just any book, it’s one that’s so far from Potter that it’s almost unbelievable it’s by the same author.

Over the past few days more details have been revealed. It’s not a fantasy or anything supernatural, it’s not a crime, mystery or thriller novel. In fact it’s hard to say exactly what it is. Rowling herself said that if it was to be summed up in a question it would be ‘what do we do with Krystal?’ yet what we do know is that this is NOT a book for children.

It deals with drug abuse, self harming, prostitution and there’s a lot of swearing. It’s a story of anger and division and snobbish views and, from what I’ve heard read by JK on TV, a desperation that only comes from struggling to survive.

It sounds bleak and has been described as monstrous and heartbreaking. Personally I cannot wait to get my hands on this book later today. It sounds amazing.

But even more exciting than the release of the book is the fact that by the end of the day I will, fingers crossed, have it signed by the story telling queen. At half seven this evening she will be at the Southbank Centre in London, as will I. If I don’t faint from sheer excitement I will be giving her a thank you card which I have signed on behalf of loads of people who just want to say thank you to her.

If you want to watch the event it is streaming on Youtube from 7.30pm

So, once again, happy Casual Vacancy Day, I hope you all enjoy it.
