Great Britain’s Great Year

I am loving this year. With the Olympics and the Queen’s Jubilee as well as our deluded hopes for Eurovision tomorrow it really is a great time to be living in this country. Everywhere I go the Union Jack is proudly displayed, reminiscent of the Royal Wedding last year.

The Olympic Torch is touring the country with much fanfare and celebration following it about. Our hopes are high and despite the horrid logo and terrible mascots everyone is finally getting into the Olympic spirit. Continue reading

Any One Book: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith

Just quickly, before I start talking about the book, I finished university yesterday! I handed in my last piece of work and needless to say it feels pretty damn weird!

Anywho, onto the book….remember there will be spoilers.

This is quite an enjoyable book. It’s basically Pride and Prejudice (which I enjoyed very, very much) with a bunch of zombies thrown in for good measure. In fact I think it could’ve used more, which is saying something considering I’m not a massive fan of them. Continue reading

Marina and the Diamonds – Electra Heart

I know I said in a recent post something about how mainstream music is just awful at the moment but there are some exceptions. Marina and the Diamonds is one of them.

On Monday just gone she released her second album Electra Heart. First and foremost this is a concept album, it’s written and sung from the point of view of Electra Heart, Marina’s alter ego of the moment.

She burst onto the music scene a couple of years ago with debut album The Family Jewels and was runner-up for the Critics Choice Award at the BRITs (losing out to Ellie Goulding of all people!) Since then she’s had hits with I am Not a Robot , Hollywood and more recently Primadonna. There’s even a very good chance that later today, on the Official Chart Show, Electra Heart will be announced as this week’s number one album. Continue reading

Question Thingy

The other day Becky tagged me to answer an eclectic set of questions and now is the first chance I’ve had to answer them. I have to say, it was kinda fun!

Rules:

  1. Post the rules.
  2. In the same post, answer the questions.
  3. Create eleven new questions to ask eleven new participants.
  4. Tag those people and share links to their blogs in your post.
  5. Let them know you’ve tagged them. Continue reading

Any One Book #8

I know I usually do this on the third of every month but I’m going to be busy tomorrow and who knows when I’ll get a chance.

It has been a difficult choice this month. I’ve bought so many books recently that I’m spoiled for choice. What to choose, what to choose? Continue reading

Yay More Work Handed in

Ahhh, I believe I’ve finished another assignment *huge sigh of relief*. Much thanks the H.E. Ellis and Michael Cargill who were both very helpful, definitely couldn’t have done it without both of you. Just three more hand ins and one exam to go!

Also, I’ve decided I want to go to some sort of literary festival. I know, I know. Someone of my age should be wanting to go to a music festival like Glastonbury or download but to be honest mainstream music is actually awful and rock has been growing steadily uninteresting for years. I mean Chase and Status have been confirmed for Download they’re so far from rock it’s ridiculous.

Guess I should start researching literary festivals though, the only ones I know of are in Edinburgh and Chicago and considering I live on the South coast of England both are quite far away.

All Was Well….Sort of

Yes, yes, yes, that is another Harry Potter reference in the title, but hey it’s justified, after all I did hand in my Harry Potter major project today. About 70 pages of Harry Potter goodnesss.

The deadline isn’t actually until tomorrow, and I’m a little disappointed that I handed it in early because not only does May 2 mark the 14th anniversary of the final battle and the death of Voldemort but Mugglenet have also decided it’s going to be international Harry Potter day on their site, it would have been so apt to vanquish this beast of a project on said day. However given that I have plenty of other hand ins (another one tomorrow) in the next couple of weeks I’m actually very relieved to have it done and dusted.

Anyway, I finished Game of Thrones too (not sure which one is the biggest achievement) but oh my god it’s such a beautifully written book and I can’t wait to carry on with the rest of the series. When I opened it I saw that it had maps at the front and actually said ‘oh good, books with maps in are usually brilliant.’ (of course that doesn’t actually include atlases)

I’ve already moved onto Clash of Kings which is already proving to be rather fantastic. Anyway, must dash, got some more features to write!
